Exams Catalunya 7th English Language Teaching Conference 2019

Helping students prove their skills to the world

9

Welcome to the Exams Catalunya 7th ELT Conference which is all about skills:  assessing them; improving them; and ultimately proving them to others.  This is what we strive to do for our students as English language teachers, and it is also why we come together for events like thisto test and develop our own skills as teachers.  Along the way, we may find ourselves learning about a range of associated life skills, a process which is not only satisfying and fun but can also contribute more profoundly to our own personal development.

We hope you will enjoy and benefit from all of the sessions you attend at the Conference and that you also meet other likeminded teachers and colleagues with whom you can exchange ideas and views.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday 16 November!

The Programme

The Programme

This year we are presenting four plenary talks from 4 experts in the field of ELT.

  • Internationally renowned ELT author and presenter Scott Thornbury will be asking us to think about and challenge some of our assumptions about how languages are learned.
  • Miranda Hamilton from Cambridge Assessment English will look at the relationship between technology, learner autonomy and progression.
  • Rachael Roberts, ELT author and life-coach with a special interest in teacher well-being will give a presentation on how to detect and prevent teacher burn-out.
  • Karen Saxby, popular materials writer for Cambridge University Press will explore the skills our Young Learners may need in the future and look at how we can help them achieve these skills in the classroom.

To assist you in choosing workshops we have assigned them to the following categories:

  • Learners and learning: looking at how learners tick, how to maximise learning, and how to improve the learner experience in the ELT classroom
  • Teachers: ideas for teachers to improve their teaching practice and develop professionally
  • Assessment: a specific focus on how to evaluate students’ abilities and prepare students for the Cambridge Assessment English exams
  • Young Learners/Teens: input sessions on keeping them interested, motivated and learning
  • Management: sessions aimed at coordinators, Directors of Studies and managers – or those who are interested in moving into these areas
