A1 Movers Digital

At a glance

A1 Movers Digital is the second of the digital Cambridge English Qualifications for young learners. Designed for maximum engagement, children find themselves transported to a dinosaur island. They create themselves as avatars and work their way along a map, completing tasks and earning rewards.

Exam format

A1 Movers Digital is made up of three components, designed to motivate young learners and encourage a positive mindset towards future learning and assessment.

Maximum 50 minutes

The A1 Movers Digital Listening test is a digital component consisting of five tasks. Each task starts with an example. In most tasks, children will hear the audio twice. In task 4, they can listen as many times as they need. Children may achieve a maximum of 5 shields.

Task 1: Story scene
  • Listen to and understand details in a story. Select correct pictures from a choice of three.
  • 5 questions
Task 2: Note-taking
  • Listen for specific information in a dialogue and type words to complete a set of notes.
  • 5 questions
Task 3: Multiple matching
  • Listen to an ongoing dialogue and match the correct word to the correct image.
  • 5 questions
Task 4: Interactive dialogue
  • Listen to questions/prompts and choose the appropriate response from a choice of three.
  • 4 questions
Task 5: Picture editing
  • Listen to the descriptions and follow the instructions by dragging and dropping objects into the correct place in the picture (questions 1-4) and writing one word in the correct place (questions 5-6).
  • 6 questions

The A1 Movers Digital Reading and Writing test is a digital component consisting of six tasks. Each task starts with an example. Children may achieve a maximum of 5 shields.

Task 1: Information posters
  • Read a short phrase on a poster and choose the correct picture from a choice of three to add to it (questions 1-2). Look at a visual on a poster and choose from a choice of three short phrases to add to it (questions 3-5).
  • 5 questions
Task 2: Online messages
  • Read a text message exchange and choose the correct image (questions 1-2) or phrase (question 3) from a choice of three. Respond to a question by choosing an image from a choice of three and writing a short sentence or phrase about it (questions 4-5).
  • 5 questions
Task 3: Spelling with definitions
  • Complete the definition sentences with the key word by typing the missing letters (questions 1-3). Match the correct word to the correct definition (questions 4-5).
  • 5 questions
Task 4: Information text
  • Read sentences on a factual topic and choose the correct word from a choice of three to complete the gaps.
  • 5 questions
Task 5: Gap-fill story
  • Read a short story and choose the correct word to complete the gap in the sentences (questions 1-6). Choose the best title for the story based on a choice of three options (question 7).
  • 7 questions
Task 6: Comic book story
  • Read a comic style story and write one, two or three word answers to complete the sentences about the story (questions 1-4). Answer a question about something shown in the pictures (questions 5 and 6) and then choose a picture from a choice of 3 to write a sentence about (questions 7 and 8).
  • 8 questions

5 – 7 minutes

The A1 Movers Digital Speaking test is a face-to-face component consisting of four tasks. Children take the test alone with the examiner, but someone they know who speaks their language (like their teacher) will introduce them to the examiner and explain what to do in their own language. Children may achieve a maximum of 5 shields.

Task 1: Two familiar pictures
  • Identify four differences between pictures.
Task 2: Picture sequence
  • Describe each picture in turn.
Task 3: Picture sets
  • Identify the odd one out and give a reason.
Task 4: Open-ended questions
  • Answer personal questions.
