Learning a language is a long-term undertaking and motivation can ebb and flow over the years. For such an important aspect of the learning process, motivation is quite difficult to explain and – often – even more difficult to instill in our students!

In this talk we will review some of the most influential theories of motivation and how these can be applied in our daily classroom practice. We will look at the importance of having a clear future vision – such as seeing yourself passing an important exam. Workshop participants will try out different techniques which can help our learners maintain their long-term motivation and set clear learning goals – for their exams and beyond!
