Challenging assumptions
Description:
The current approach to second language teaching, and of English in particular, rests on a number of assumptions. One of these is that language is best learned incrementally in the form of bite-sized chunks (also known as grammar macnuggets!) In this talk I’d like to challenge this and one or two other assumptions, explore why they are so persistent, and suggest ways that they might be counteracted or, if necessary, subverted.
